Timothy J. McGourthy last week became the latest official to announce he’s leaving the city’s employ.

Worcester’s well-regarded chief economic development officer will take over the reins of The Research Bureau when its longtime president and CEO Roberta R. Schaefer retires in February.

A gifted and enthusiastic urban planner, Mr. McGourthy will bring a wealth of firsthand experience to his new job, and a close understanding of the inner workings of Worcester and its vision for the future.
