Wall & Main: Worcester Regional Research Bureau needs data before it backs WooSox project

The Worcester Regional Research Bureau, a 30-year-old organization that conducts public policy research and analysis, is not sure whether the benefits of bringing the Red Sox Triple A affiliate to Worcester will exceed its costs.

The reason for the Research Bureau’s conclusion is that it lacks enough information to draw a conclusion.

Nevertheless, it affirms the local excitement about the possible move. As Research Bureau Executive Director Tim McGourthy told me in an Aug. 20 interview, “The city’s announcement of the Red Sox Triple A affiliate coming to Worcester is exciting. It has dominated local media and has people buzzing. It is an important opportunity to solidify Worcester’s place in the regional consciousness.”
