Municipally run broadband network urged at Worcester forum

WORCESTER – A Worcester Regional Research Bureau forum examining the possibility of municipal broadband internet service began Thursday afternoon with participants testing their download speeds.

The results were unimpressive.

“I see people very taken aback from results of speed tests,” Paul Matthews, executive director of The Research Bureau, said.

Research Associate Tom Quinn noted speeds can be impacted by numerous factors, including the number of people on the connection and their online activities at the time of the test, location in the city and more.
