School Committee candidates take up many topics at debate: new superintendent, sex ed., buses

WORCESTER — The candidates in this fall’s citSchool Committee race squared off Wednesday night in a debate that often found them on common ground on the most pressing district issues.

The event, held at Mechanics Hall, served as a preview what the next School Committee might prioritize in its next session, including adding more student support positions, increasing staff diversity and addressing the district’s racially unequal suspension rates.

No matter who wins on Nov. 2, the committee will have a different look next year, with two long-time members — Jack Foley and John Monfredo — stepping down at the end of their current terms.
