Timothy McGourthy, Worcester’s point man on economic development, will leave his City Hall post to become executive director of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, the bureau announced Tuesday.

McGourthy, the city’s chief development officer, will succeed the retiring Roberta Schaefer beginning in February, the bureau said in a statement.

“We believe that Tim’s extensive research and policy experience, along with his experience in working to collaborate with both public and private entities, make him a perfect choice to take the WRRB into the future,” said Karen Duffy, chairman of the WRRB board of directors.
