    Mass. Law Enables Worcester to Appoint Paul Saucier Next Chief of Police

    The Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate met in formal sessions on Thursday, Nov. 14 to vote to pass an economic development legislation package that includes a provision that will clear the way for Worcester Interim Chief of Police Paul Saucier to become the city’s next permanent chief.

    WORCESTER – The Worcester Regional Research Bureau (WRRB) released a report on Thursday, Sept. 5, titled “Mass. Exodus from Civil Service: Examining Worcester’s Proposal to Exempt Police Leaders Amidst Statewide Shifts.” The 30-page report examines municipal police departments requesting exemptions from the Massachusetts Civil Service Law.

    Cost of Worcester Pedestrian, Cyclist Crashes: $500 Million

    WORCESTER – A new report by the Worcester Regional Research Bureau (WRRB), “Toward Safer Streets,” estimates the cost of pedestrian and cyclist crashes in 2019 in Worcester was $493,644,552. The total includes costs for damages, medical costs, reduced productivity, and lost wages.

    WORCESTER – The Worcester City Council Economic Development Committee will take up a report the Worcester Regional Research Bureau (WRRB) published in September 2023. The WRRB submitted the report to city council soon after it was published. City Council sent the report to the Economic Development Committee, where it has sat since.

    WRTA Board Approved Fare-Free Transit through June 2025

    WORCESTER – The Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) Advisory Board voted unanimously on Thursday morning to continue its fare free program through June 2025. The board voted to approve the program last year through June 2024.
