With the announcement of Superintendent Melinda J. Boone’s departure, education in Worcester is at an important juncture, one that offers an opportunity to consider the state of our schools and what we must do as a community to ensure the best possible education for our young people.

As we contemplate new leadership, now is the time to articulate a vision for our schools and a strategy for success – a process that will highlight those qualities and qualifications needed in a superintendent who can accomplish our vision. We must establish a transparent, inclusive process to select a leader who will keep our district and schools moving forward in educating our children and preparing them for productive, contributing citizenship. In the 21st-century global economy, our schools must be a model of excellence in both teaching and learning.
