The disparity in broadband access across Worcester households has never been more clear, the Worcester Regional Research Bureau writes in its latest report, but the availability of federal and state support for investment in new initiatives, including municipal broadband or a fiber-optic network, creates a unique opportunity to narrow the digital divide.

To address the digital divide that exists in the city, and an aging broadband infrastructure that faces a finite bandwidth, the Bureau suggests the city utilize federal and state funding to invest in municipal broadband and updated infrastructure.
