The Worcester City Council took up an order from Councilor Jenny Pacillo on Tuesday, which asked for “a report detailing the feasibility of creating a municipally owned grocery store.” Pacillo sought the information to evaluate potential solutions for emerging food deserts in Worcester.

After Mayor Joe Petty read the item, Pacillo immediately amended the order to, “request the city manager work with community partners and the state and federal delegation to explore the feasibility of creative grocery store solutions to expand access to affordable groceries in the city.
