WRRB: Worcester Overdue for Long Thwarted Police Oversight

WORCESTER – The Worcester Regional Research Bureau released a report requested by the administration of City Manager Eric Batista that includes a scathing review of Worcester’s history of thwarting independent police oversight and directly recommends the city establish a civilian review board.

The report, “Overdue for Civilian Oversight: A Pathway for Lasting Police Reform,” opens by calling Worcester’s lack of a civilian review board or comparable oversight structure as, “striking,” and “even more so in light of the December 2024 U.S. Department of Justice findings report, which identified systemic weaknesses in the city’s internal accountability systems.”
